　　根據國傢教育部考試中心的設計，PETS考試將逐步取代現有的各種考試，包括高考中的英語考試及研究生入學英語考試。目前，全國英語等級考試的第二級考試成績可以取代全國自學考試非英語專業專科的英語成績；第三級考試成績可以取代全國自學考試非英語專業本科的英語成績；第五級考試成績可以取代原有的公派齣國留學人員英語水平考試（WSK·EPT）。

　　與其他英語考試相比，PETS具有統一的係統評價標準，在考試成果的使用上也有統一的對照和準確的引用標準，更重視聽力和口語的考核。命題的各項設置非常細緻和明確，結構的整體和局部均理念獨到、架構縝密，在級彆的劃分和難度的設置上也考慮周全，使其盡可能地趨於規範、閤理和實用。

　　更值得贊賞的是，PETS麵嚮全國的任何一個英語學習者，是一個全國性的非學曆性外語考試平颱。無論任何職業、年齡和學曆，都可以參與到這項考試中來。考試的寬廣程度可以滿足學習者和用人單位的需求，為對外交流和經濟建設提供瞭一個穩固的橋梁。

內容簡介

　　本教材共有12章，每章覆蓋一個交際話題。每章的首頁提示簡要描述瞭在本章（交際話題）內PETS第一級考生應該達到的英語交際水平。每章有1~5個單元，本教材共有28個單元，每單元包括：

　　1. 對話依據各交際話題所涉及到的交際情景，安排若乾段對話。對話力求構思真實、精練，語言地道、得體。每段對話均采用常見、基本的口語句型，主要用來訓練學習者的聽說能力。每段對話前，均有情景提示語，以點明該對話發生的背景；每段對話均附有若乾個問題，以檢測考生對該對話的理解程度。

　　2. 課文課文的長度在80~320詞之間，是對該單元對話內容的補充或延伸，主要用來訓練學習者的讀寫能力。為幫助學習者加深對課文的理解，每篇課文均附有若乾個問題，這些問題同時也可作口頭練習。

　　3. 單詞和短語單詞和短語是本單元對話和課文中齣現的生詞和短語，並按在文中齣現的先後順序給齣瞭單詞的新國際音標、詞性及中文釋義。

　　4. 注釋注釋針對對話和課文，主要從語法、詞匯等方麵點撥對話和課文中的疑點、難點，對長難句進行語法分析，並舉例講解語言點、知識點，以訓練考生靈活應用語言的能力。

　　5. 模擬訓練模擬訓練是針對各單元的重點考試內容設計的，考生可以對該單元的學習情況進行自我檢測。該部分題型與筆試、口試考試真捲一緻，以便於考生全麵備考PETS一級。

　　6. 補充閱讀為使考生對相關的話題有一個更深入的瞭解，激發考生學習英語的興趣，開闊他們的眼界，在每單元的後均附有一篇補充閱讀。

　　Mrs. Green lived in a small flat（公寓）. She was old and did not like any noise at all. If there was a noise， she could not sleep. Above her flat， there lived a young couple. They always quarreled（爭吵） with each other until midnight， so Mrs. Green could not have a sound（香甜的） sleep. So when the couple moved out， Mrs. Green was very happy. As a new young lady moved in， Mrs. Green thought， “Yes， she looks very quiet.”

　　But at four o’clock in the next morning， Mrs. Green was woken up by the barking（犬吠聲） of a dog.

　　“Nobody here keeps a pet，” thought Mrs. Green， “The dog must belong to the young lady in the flat above.” So she telephoned the young lady， and said some unpleasant（不客氣的） words to her about the dog. And then， without waiting for her to say anything， she hung up the telephone and went to sleep again.

　　The next morning at three o’clock the dog was barking again. Just then， Mrs. Green’s phone rang. She answered it， and a voice said， “I’m calling to tell you that I don’t have a dog.”Dialogue 1
