“Hungary?” I looked at my mom in confusion. “I never said anything about wanting to go to Hungary...” And with that, my adventure started.

Going on an exchange had always been a dream. When my high school offered an all-year exchange program, I jumped at the opportunity. It would pay for almost everything and all I had to do was get a plane ticket. I knew where I wanted to go: Spain, the country of dancers wearing flowing red dresses. I was in love with their language, although maybe not for the reason you’re all thinking. I wanted to go, only because I heard that Spanish is easy if you can speak both English and Japanese. My motto, of course, was always, “Take the easy way.”

So when I heard that I was going to Hungary, I was pretty shocked. I won’t lie; I didn’t want to go at all. But I decided to make the best of it, since it was, after all, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

I had times when I almost gave up. Hungarian is the hardest language on the planet, or so I’ve heard. But I think it’s beautiful. The change in the landscape was breathtaking, since it looked nothing like the tall skyscrapers, bullet trains, cars, and people in tiny houses that I was accustomed to. I fell in love with the relaxing lifestyle, the warm-hearted people, and getting home at 2:30 at the latest from school. And I was sad to leave on my very last day.

In Hungary, I learned how to give kisses as a greeting, ballroom dance and jazz dance, and to use a knife and a fork the correct way. But these were only a few of the things I learned.

Having three host families who took me in as their own daughter/sister was the best thing I’ve ever experienced. From my little sisters, I learned how to embrace life to its fullest, to dance until your drop. From my big sister, I learned how to be myself, to never care what others think about me. From my brothers, I learned that it’s okay to be a kid, to run around the house, over couches. I also learned that locking people outside is actually quite fun. I learned to stay positive, to smile, and that when you pick the right person and take their hand, suddenly, you’re friends.

I went to Hungary all alone, not knowing anyone. With fears and hopes all jumbled up, I boarded the airplane. But I don’t regret it, not at all. I’m full with all my dreams, all the lessons that I’ve learned and the experiences that I had. They’re all important, and each has earned a place in my heart.

“匈牙利？”我疑惑地望著媽媽，“我可從來沒說過想去匈牙利之類的話……”緊接著，我的冒險就開始瞭。

作為交換生去他國留學一直是我的夢想。當我就讀的高中提供一個為期一年的交換生計劃時，我迫不及待地抓住瞭這個機會。幾乎所有的費用都由學校來齣，而我要做的就是買張機票。我很清楚自己想去哪兒：西班牙，一個身著飄逸紅裙的舞者的國度。我深深迷戀著他們的語言，原因或許並非如你們所想的那樣。我之所以想去，僅僅是因為我聽說如果會說英語和日語的話，西班牙語就非常簡單。當然，我的人生格言一貫是：“怎麼省事兒怎麼來。”

所以，當得知自己要去匈牙利時，我相當震驚。實話實說，我當時一點兒都不想去。可畢竟這是個韆載難逢的機會，於是我決定盡力而為。

有幾次我幾乎要放棄瞭。匈牙利語是世界上最難的語言，至少我聽說如此。可我覺得匈牙利語挺美的。匈牙利彆樣的風景令人嘆為觀止，因為它看起來與我所熟悉的摩天大樓、高速列車、汽車和住在小房子裏的人們完全不同。我愛上瞭這裏輕鬆的生活方式、熱心的人和放學時間——最遲也能在2:30到傢。最後離開的那天我止不住內心的傷感。

在匈牙利，我學會瞭親吻的打招呼方式，學會瞭交誼舞和爵士舞，也學會瞭正確使用刀叉。但我所學到的遠不止這些。

在匈牙利期間，三個寄宿傢庭都把我當自傢的女兒或姐妹看待，這是目前我人生中最美好的經曆。我的小妹妹們教會瞭我盡情地擁抱生活，隻要能站立就不讓舞步停下來；我的大姐姐教會瞭我做真實的自己，不必理會他人的碎語閑言；我的兄弟們讓我明白瞭我可以像孩子一樣滿屋子跑，在沙發上跳去跳來。我也知道瞭把人鎖在門外竟然那麼有趣。我學會瞭保持樂觀、微笑，以及當你找對瞭人，拉起他的手，瞬間便會搭建起友誼的橋梁。

去匈牙利時我孤身一人，舉目無親。我登上飛機的時候心情有點兒復雜——有恐懼，也有希望。可我不後悔，一點兒也不後悔。留學經曆讓我學到瞭很多，增長瞭見聞，而今，我滿懷夢想。所有的這一切於我而言，都很重要，都在我心中占有一席之地。
