像大辞典一样的一本书，印刷文字有些晕染开的感觉。书为托尔金的儿子所著，是整理的父亲的故事创作片段，是对中土故事、人物的一部注释集。适合对中土故事深度着迷，喜欢探究的人。没有太多故事性和完整性，就是一部托尔金故事的注释集和”工具书“。一般读者，托尔金的作品只推荐霍比特人The Hobbit和魔戒The Lord of the Rings。京东买外文书价格非常实惠，只是包装过程粗糙，常把书弄脏，只好用橡皮再把书口处的黑手印一点一点擦掉。
