The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien's world. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them such as Elrond and Galadriel took part. The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-Earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor. 　　方平先生主編、主譯的這個版本是頭一個用詩體翻譯的莎士比亞全集譯本。莎士比亞戲劇的原貌是詩劇，是以素詩體（blank verse）為基本形式的詩劇，以詩體譯詩體，盡量使譯文在語氣、語言節奏感上更接近莎劇原貌，是這個版本的最終訴求。還有並非無關緊要的是，這個譯本是全新、最晚齣的，方平先生又終生研究莎士比亞，生前是中國莎士比亞協會會長，國際莎士比亞協會執行理事。這個譯本因此溶入瞭全新的莎學研究成果，每部劇作和詩歌作品之前均有“前言”——分析作品的藝術特色、人物形象和思想主題等，對這部作品做齣恰如其分的綜閤評價；之後又附有簡明扼要的“考證”——對此部作品
