This series adopts the Experience- Textbook FeaturesConcept-Application (ECA) approach where opportunities for independent learning and research are also offered in each unit.

Concepts are introduced through a song or a practical music exercise. This allows pupils to relate their experience with the learning of concepts.

CONCEPT

Each unit focuses on one or two concepts that will be explored theoretically and practically. Notation and musical vocabulary are introduced sequentially throughout the series.

Eric Peter Steadwas a lecturer in Music Education in the NationalInstitute of Education (NIE), Singapore and as a freelance musician from1990-2016. He is currently a freelance musician, author and consultantin music education in the UK. His other interests include the psychology ofthe perception of sound and the role of music in social, moral, cultural andspiritual education.

Eugene Dairianathan's interests are in interdisciplinary perspectives on music and education as well as musical practices in Singapore. He is lead author of a technical report
A Narrative History of Music in Singapore 1819 to the presentfunded by a National Arts Council Grant in 2002. He was a Principal Investigator of two education research projectson Creative Music-making (OER36-08ED) and Popular Music (OER17-12ED) in schools. Eugene is currently Co-Principal Investigator in three further education research projects.
Eugene Dairianathan
