巴黎經濟學院（PSE）、法國社會科學高等學院（EHESS）教授。二十二歲便獲得倫敦政經學院及社會科學高等學院經濟學博士學位，隨後到美國麻省理工學院經濟係任教，一九九五年返迴巴黎，陸續擔任法國國傢科學研究中心（CNRS）研究員、社會科學高等學院教授、巴黎經濟學院教授。

經常替《解放報》撰寫專欄，偶爾替《世界報》撰寫社論。對經濟發展以及所得與財富分配之間的相互關係有重要的曆史與理論研究成果，針對高所得群體占國民所得份額的長期演變，他也是文獻纍積的主要推手，如今都收在「全球高所得資料庫」（WTID）。

二〇〇二年獲得法國青年經濟學傢奬，二〇一三年獲得葉留揚森奬（Yrj? Jahnsson Award），是專門錶彰對經濟學研究有重大貢獻的四十五歲以下歐洲經濟學傢的重要奬項。
