　　作者作為一位資深的錢幣收藏愛好者，仔細統計瞭從1825年英國創建世界鐵路以來，已發行過有關鐵路題材的硬幣總計有54個國傢和地區，其硬幣總數約在197種左右，他韆方百計搜集到瞭52個國傢和地區的180種左右的錢幣，一一加以研究，撰寫瞭本書，從內容的深度，廣度都達到相當水平，文筆流暢，寓教於樂，使人看瞭既增長瞭鐵路知識，又能得到美學上的享受。這是我國鐵路專題硬幣研究的一本著作，也是鐵路知識一本極好的科普書籍。本書首先介紹瞭世界鐵路發展簡史，然後以世界鐵路的發展為主綫，將鐵路的誕生、修建鐵路的高潮、鐵路的輝煌、挑戰與轉機、鐵路再次輝煌這幾個大的時間段為分界，以這140多種錢幣來敘述瞭世界鐵路的發展與輝煌，讓人在欣賞錢幣的同時感嘆鐵路發展的氣勢，同時得到瞭美的享受，集知識和娛樂於一書，讓人迴味無窮。

內容簡介

　　氣勢磅礴的蒸汽機車噴吐著白色煙霧，牽引著長大的火車車廂、勢不可擋地飛馳嚮前，這是鐵路一齣現就在人們心目中留下的雄偉形象。事實上18世紀下半葉，英國人瓦特(1736-1819)發明瞭蒸汽機，全世界的産業發生瞭巨大變化，人們把蒸汽機的齣現看作是世界産業革命。但産業革命真正的急先鋒卻是鐵路，不論是那個國傢，在其工業化過程中鐵路扮演著先驅者的重要角色，對這個國傢的社會、經濟飛速發展做齣巨大的不可磨滅的貢獻，時至今日，全世界有134個國傢和地區擁有約115萬韆米的鐵路，另外有113個城市擁有地鐵1萬韆米以上，309個城市擁有輕軌4萬4韆韆米，更為甚者高速鐵路已在包括中國在內的20個國傢和地區建成，而且發展進程“如火如荼”。如今，全世界90%以上的人口天天在使用鐵路，離不開鐵路，鐵路的豐功偉績不僅廣為人們傳誦，而且已在世界各國正式發行的硬幣上得到突齣的反映。世界硬幣已有3韆多年曆史，但在十九世紀以前，硬幣上的圖案主要是君王、宗教或動物圖騰，形式單一。隻是從二十世紀開始，硬幣圖案纔有瞭極大的拓展，對社會發展有巨大影響的政治、科學、藝術人物及各種社會事件的題材內容開始在硬幣上得到反映。鐵路作為十九世紀纔問世的一種産業模式，在二十世紀的硬幣上卻在各種社會産業題材中獨占鰲頭，據不完全的統計，目前已有48個國傢與地區相繼發行瞭124種鐵路主題硬幣共183枚，而且設計精美，構思獨特。為什麼鐵路的發展在人們心目中具有如此巨大的魅力呢，這與鐵路創新過程中湧現齣眾多名人及傳奇式事件有關，更與世界鐵路經曆瞭180多年高峰—低榖—高峰的發展，對世界各國的經濟“騰飛”做齣瞭曆史性的貢獻直接有關。
　　作者從事鐵路科技工作四十多年，在本職工作之餘，對收藏世界各國鐵路專題的硬幣情懷獨鍾。通過十幾年的搜集、收藏、研究，對每一枚鐵路題材的硬幣，不僅在幣麵圖案、文字及藝術錶達形式上作查證、分析，更對它的發行背景、人物的生平、曆史貢獻、事件的前因後果及對社會重大影響作瞭深入研究。本書中作者挑選瞭在世界鐵路硬幣中有影響力並有深刻涵義的硬幣95種作一圖文並茂的介紹，希望讀者閱讀後，不僅對各國鐵路的發展及貢獻有一個生動的瞭解，又能通過小小硬幣上精美的藝術作品的感染，增加對鐵路硬幣中蘊涵的藝術性的欣賞能力，從而萌發濃厚的興趣，最終投入鐵路硬幣收藏隊伍中來，這也是作者一個心願。

作者簡介

　　錢立新，浙江嘉興人，研究員，博士生導師。中國鐵道學會會員、中國錢幣學會會員。1964年上海交通大學機車車輛與運輸起重機械係鐵道車輛專業畢業，曆任中國鐵道科學研究院研究實習員、助理研究員、副研究員、研究員。1981～1983年赴美國伊利諾理工大學及美國西北大學任訪問學者、客座副教授。迴國後一直從事鐵路提速、重載、高速關鍵技術的研究與開發，曾獲國傢科技進步一等奬、二等奬、三等奬各一項，鐵道部等部級科技進步一等奬三項，齣版專著五冊，其中主編的《世界高速鐵路技術》2004年獲第14屆國傢圖書奬。1994年被授予國傢有突齣貢獻中青年專傢稱號，1995年享受國務院特殊津貼。1984年曾全權代錶中國參與籌建“國際重載鐵路協會”並擔任常務理事、曾任國際鐵路聯盟科技指導委員會委員，《中國鐵道科學》主編。
　　工作之餘對世界錢幣的集藏有濃厚的興趣，退休後更達癡迷的程度，尤其鍾情於世界鐵路幣及人物幣的積藏與研究探討，除收藏瞭初具規模的鐵路幣、人物幣外，近十年來陸續在《中國收藏(錢幣)》、《鐵道知識》和其他報刊上發錶有關錢幣收藏研討的文章20餘篇。2007年在中國收藏傢協會，中國鐵道學會主辦的“‘動力時代’杯首屆中國鐵路文化收藏展”上展齣瞭世界鐵路錢幣，榮獲優秀收藏奬。
