In the Dream House is Carmen Maria Machado’s engrossing and wildly innovative account of a relationship gone bad, and a bold dissection of the mechanisms and cultural representations of psychological abuse. Tracing the full arc of a harrowing relationship with a charismatic but volatile woman, Machado struggles to make sense of how what happened to her shaped the person she was becoming.
And it’s that struggle that gives the book its original structure: each chapter is driven by its own narrative trope―the haunted house, erotica, the bildungsroman―through which Machado holds the events up to the light and examines them from different angles. ##作者说她在湾区的dating不成功因为“Bay Area lesbians are pretty testy about the whole bisexuality thing”. (￣▽￣)”我只觉得湾区人好敏锐！！附注里面说到女权主义理论一直不愿正视les伴侣中存在的暴力和虐待，越是要么对虐待现象视而不见，要么试图把虐待者从”真女人“群体中划分出去，说这些人之所以虐待伴侣是因为她们的内心被男性气质污染了。作者呼吁不要把les关系宣传成乌托邦，les也是人，也有人的阴暗面和劣根性，正视les中的家暴现象，承认受害者遭受的创伤和虐待是真实的，法律对家暴受害者的保护才会惠及les群体。
评分我们queers也是人，当然也会PUA和家庭暴力。夹叙夹议，语言优美而脆弱，但还是感觉叙事得星星点点、铺垫不太够，令人有些感同身受，但又有些支离破碎、进展有些突然（可能也是篇幅小的缘故）。可能是回忆录的原因，女主的视角非常限定，所以显得女朋友就像一个没有心的神经病和怪物。我写文章时也常常这样，丰沛地表达自己的视角和情感，以及对周围人言行的无措和不解，对身边的信息感到很passive、overwhelmed。我最近渐渐觉得这其实是作者本身不大能观察和分析预测和总结周围人行为语言和性格的缘故，换句话说就是有点self-focused、情商比较一般。我也想提高一下。
