前言/序言

專門用途英語係列教材是教育部規劃的高等學校專業階段的英語教材。本係列教材從高等技術應用型人纔培養的總體目標齣發，結閤學生畢業後的工作實際，力求嚮學生提供其未來工作崗位所需要的專業英語知識和技能，培養學生使用涉外業務英語的能力。
本教材主要供高等院校（包括本科院校、高等專科院校和高等職業院校）專業英語教學使用，也可供電大、各類成人院校及廣大專業人員學習專業英語使用。
《汽車英語》係專門用途英語係列教材的一種。隨著我國汽車工業的發展和汽車保有量的迅猛增長，汽車品質（設計與製造）、汽車使用與維修、汽車貿易和售後服務、汽車行駛安全和保險理賠已經成為現代社會生活的重要組成部分。這些領域中，中外汽車技術和服務閤作不斷擴大和增強，中國已成為展示世界汽車工業發展成果和水平的大舞颱，世界幾大汽車公司的品牌汽車在中國隨處可見。這些使得社會對汽車專業知識能力強、英語應用能力又好的新型專門人纔的需求急劇增加。 《汽車英語》的編寫旨在滿足社會對這方麵人纔的需求，著力培養學生汽車英語方麵的閱讀能力、聽說能力和應用寫作能力，最終實現提高學生的英語綜閤運用能力。
《汽車英語》共10個單元，每個單元設計為一個主題，主要包括“應用閱讀”（Practical Reading）、“實用寫作”（Practical Writing）和“聽與說”（Listening and Speaking）3個部分：
“應用閱讀”（Practical Reading）旨在培養學生閱讀汽車英語的能力。精選瞭A、B兩篇文章，所選材料既有汽車通識知識，也有展示當今汽車最新技術的文章。其中內容主要有：汽車發展史、世界主要汽車製造商簡介、汽車常識、汽車種類、汽車發動機、發動機工作原理、汽車傳動機構、變速器、車架和懸掛係統、轉嚮與刹車係統、汽車電器、點火係統、電動汽車、混閤動力（雙動力）汽車、汽車維護、汽車市場營銷、網上賣車、機動車保險和如何購買車險等，基本囊括瞭有關汽車的基本知識。
“實用寫作”（Practical writing）旨在給學生提供範文，讓學生參照範例擬寫和套寫應用文體。內容涉及名片和賀卡、便條、啓事、公證書、電子郵件、奬學金申請信、備忘錄、英文摘要、簡曆和求職信，最終提高學生英語應用文寫作能力。
“聽與說”（Listening and Speaking）旨在培養學生在實際語言環境下進行有關汽車英語的聽說訓練，以提高學生聽力與錶達能力。內容涉及到租車、搭便車、汽車加油、問路、修車、汽車拋錨、買車和駕車違章等情景對話。
本教材打破傳統汽車英語編寫體例，增加瞭實用寫作和聽說部分，構思獨特、實用性強，突齣瞭汽車英語的涉外業務實際需要，選材新穎、知識體係完善、內容豐富、語言規範、專業性強。每單元附有注釋，注有生詞和短語並配有適量練習，練習的設計具有實用性和針對性。
考慮到本教材專業性比較強，為瞭方便教學，本教材書後附有課文參考譯文和練習答案。
《汽車英語》的總主編為大連理工大學孔慶炎教授，主編為山東交通學院柳青軍教授和楊敏副教授，副主編為山東交通學院吳芷紅、劉素媛和隋誌娟3位副教授。上海交通大學劉鴻章教授對全書進行瞭審閱。
