Robert Greenberger is the creator of Comics Scene, the first national magazine covering comic books, comic strips, and animation. He has worked for DC Comics and Gist Communications, and he served as director of publishing operations for Marvel Comics. Greenberger is the author of numerous novels, including adventures set in the Star Trek universe, and is the news editor for the trendsetting online popular culture site ComicMix. He lives with his wife, Deb, in Fairfield, Connecticut.

　　　　書中不可避免的帶著冷戰的烙印。一觸即發的緊張感彌漫在全書中。顯然，當時米勒已經在反省大眾媒體的影響，廣泛采用“電視播報”這一形式，不僅為主題推波助瀾，也傳達各方的觀感：既不同於“超人歸來”的萬眾歡呼，也不同於X戰警們受到的歧視和排擠，一個地下的執法者引來的是懷疑與爭議。公眾在電視上辯論不休，對他的行為有褒有貶。這種手法後來被許多人模仿。而布魯斯父母被槍殺時珍珠掉落的那一組慢鏡頭，也被無數畫傢一而再、再而三的重復。

　　　　蝙蝠俠收服街頭的小混混，形成一支新的幫派——很難說他們究竟是罪犯還是受害者。他同綠箭（之前在漫畫中就一貫是左派立場）的閤作，則更具政治色彩：忠實聽命於總統，以求換得超人類的生存空間的超人，淪為瞭當局的忠犬；反倒是身為凡人的他們，打齣瞭決不妥協的信號。即使代價是死亡。

　　　　而這正是DKR最大的副作用。很多人對米勒的作品存在著誤讀，僅僅被他筆下那個黑暗的世界所震撼，卻忘瞭他在黑暗中，同時還埋藏瞭一絲希望，以及對希望的追求。於是他們開始模仿所謂的“黑暗”路綫，卻隻學得些皮毛。不是要孤僻麼？便讓人物命犯天煞孤星，眾叛親離；不是要冷酷麼？便抹去他所有的人性，讓他徹底的“愛無能”；至於黑暗——還沒有人能模仿米勒的黑暗，連皮毛也不能。
