內容簡介

　　 《純愛英文館：瞭不起的蓋茨比（英文版）》的主人公尼剋·卡拉威（第一人稱）是一個華爾街的股票商，他是蓋茨比的鄰居。後來卡拉威體會到不論外錶上多麼尊嚴，這些巨富們實際上是非常“淡漠的人”，湯姆和黛西也不例外。湯姆有一個情人默爾特，她是長島和紐約市的高樓大廈之間的不毛之地上的一個加油站主的妻子。一天，蓋茨比讓黛西駕他的新車齣遊，在一次交通事故中黛西意外地將默爾特輾死瞭。為瞭保護黛西，蓋茨比說是他駕的車。結果蓋茨比被默爾特的丈夫槍殺。蓋茨比的葬禮幾乎無人參加，就連黛西也沒有參加。卡拉威最後找到瞭喬丹，一個本計劃參加葬禮的人，纔知曉蓋茨比的所謂身份隻是一個幻影。隨後卡拉威離開去瞭中西部，留下的隻是蓋茨比的一相情願般的夢境與哀傷。

No -Gatsby tumid out all right at the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby， what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short-winded elations of men.
My family has been prominent， well-to-do people in this Middle Western arty for three generations. The Caraways are something of a clan， and we have a tradition that we're descended from the Dukes of Buccleuch， but the actual founder of my line was my grandfather's brother， who came here in fifty-one， sent a substitute to the Civil War， and started the wholesale hardware business that my father cranes on today.
I never saw this great-uncle， but I'm supposed to look like him - with sepal reference to the rather hard-boiled painting that hangs in father's office. I graduated from New Haven in 1915， just a quarter of a century after my father， and a little later I participated in that delayed Teutonic migration known as the Great War. I enjoyed the counter raid so thoroughly that I came back restless. Instead of being the warm centre of the world， the Middle West now seemed like the ragged edge of the universe -so I deeded to go east and loam the bond business. Everybody I knew was in the bond business， so I supposed it could support one more single man All my aunts and uncles talked it over as if they were choosing a prep school for me， and finally said，' Why -ye-as，' with very grave， hesitant faces. Father agreed to finance me for a year， and after various delays I came east， permanently， I thought， in the spring of twenty-two.

一本小書，適閤學習英語的人拿來讀讀

總覺得小說都應該像這種尺寸，便攜、適手，紙張很薄排版很密，所以輕巧，不像時下大多數暢銷書精裝又精裝。

　　《論語》第一句話："學而時習之，不亦說乎？"意思是說，我們學瞭之後，又不斷地溫習它，這不是件很快活的事嗎？曾子又說："吾日三省吾身，為人謀而不忠乎？與朋友交而不信乎？傳不習乎？"曾子每天反省三件事：做事、對人，是不是有不忠心的地方？與朋友交往，說話是不是沒有算話？讀書是不是沒溫習？孔子和曾子都提齣"習"這個字。"習"字造字的由來，是人們看到剛齣生的小鳥，由母鳥教飛，常常飛不好，便摔瞭下來，會有性命之憂。母鳥用翅膀幫助並逼迫它學飛，一天又一天，慢慢地，學飛成瞭習慣之後，也就成瞭自然，它終於能從低處往高處飛瞭。孔子和曾子提齣"習"字，用意在於告訴我們，讀書也是習慣的養成。

這本書一看就是盜版的感覺，不過尺寸挺好，方便攜帶，韆萬不要讓我找到單詞到處都有錯誤的地方！
