作者簡介

Born in Ireland, Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was educated in Dublin & Oxford and went on to become the leading and most prominent exponent of flamboyant aestheticism. As well as his many plays, he wrote one novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890), and published several volumes of poetry and criticism. He was imprisoned in 1895 for homosexual offences and after his release he died in exile in Paris. Richard Cave has edited a selection of Yeats' plays for Penguin Classics.

　　奧斯卡·王爾德（Oscar Wilde），又譯奧斯卡·懷爾德，全名奧斯卡·芬葛·歐佛雷泰·威爾斯·王爾德（Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde，1854年10月16日—1900年11月30日）英國唯美主義藝術運動的倡導者，英國著名的作傢、詩人、戲劇傢、藝術傢、童話傢。《典雅》雜誌將他和安徒生相提並論。
　　王爾德生於愛爾蘭都柏林的一個傢世卓越的傢庭，是傢中的次子。他的父親威廉姆·懷爾德爵士是一個外科醫生，他的母親是一位詩人與作傢。
　　王爾德自幼便顯示很高的天賦，他精通法語、德語和古典文學。
　　王爾德自都柏林聖三一學院（Trinity College）畢業後，獲得奬學金，於1874年進入牛津大學莫德林學院(Magdalen College)學習。在牛津，王爾德受到瞭沃爾特·佩特及約翰·拉斯金的審美觀念影響，並接觸瞭新黑格爾派哲學、達爾文進化論和拉斐爾前派的作品，這為他之後成為唯美主義先鋒作傢確立瞭方嚮。

1882年，王爾德在美國作瞭一個精彩的巡迴講座，兩年後他與康斯坦斯·勞埃德（Constance Lloyd）戀愛成婚，兩個兒子西裏爾（Cyril）與維維安（Vyvyan）亦分彆在1885年與1886年齣生。

非常值得珍藏的一本書，有奧斯卡王爾德的很多代錶作品，就是英文原版的如假包換的。唯一不足的就是書有點破舊瞭。應該是漂洋過海來到美麗的東方風塵僕僕的緣故吧。
