學必須依靠語言作為唯一的傳達信息的方法，並且在傳達中，在無歧義性問題具有最大的重要性的地方，邏輯形式必須起它們的作用。在這點上，特徵性的睏難可以描述如下。在自然科學中，我們試圖從一般導齣特殊，試圖理解由簡單的普遍規律引起的特殊現象。用語言錶述的普遍規律隻能包含少量簡單的概念——否則規律將不是簡單和普遍的瞭。從這些概念要推導齣無限多樣性的可能現象，不僅是定性地，而且要在每一個細節上都以完全的準確性推導齣來。顯然，日常語言的概念，既然它們是不準確的並且是模糊地定義的，就決不能允許作這樣的推導。當從既定的前提導齣判斷的鏈條時，鏈條中可能有的環的數目依賴於前提的準確性。由此可見，自然科學中普遍規律的概念必須以完全的準確性規定下來，而這隻有用數學的抽象方法纔能做到。

　　還有，直到上世紀末所引入的全部概念構成瞭適用於廣闊經驗領域的完全首尾一貫的概念集，並且，與以往的概念一起，構成瞭不僅是科學傢、也是技術人員和工程師在他們的工作中可以成功地應用的語言。屬於這種語言的基本觀念是這樣一些假設：事件在時間中的次序與它們在空間中的次序完全無關；歐幾裏得幾何在真實空間中是正確的；在空間和時間中“發生”的事件與它們是否被觀測完全無關。不可否認，每次觀測對被觀測的現象都有某種影響，但是一般假設，通過小心謹慎地做實驗，可使這種影響任意地縮小。這實際上似乎是被當作全部自然科學的基礎的客觀性理想的必要條件。
